S3 cost intelligence by IronShard

Trim

Find out what you should be paying for cloud storage.

Then stop paying anything else.

Connect your S3 bucket. Trim identifies your workload type, calculates the cheapest provider for your actual access pattern, and routes your data there automatically through IronShard's multi-cloud architecture.

Step 1 — Cost arbitrage

Find the cheapest provider for your workload

Trim analyses your bucket's actual access pattern and classifies it into one of three workload types. It then calculates what that exact workload would cost across every major S3-compatible provider and shows you the gap between what you pay today and what you should be paying.

Step 2 — IronShard placement

Automatically move your data

Once you approve the recommendation, IronShard's multi-cloud architecture routes your data to the optimal provider or provider mix. Your S3 endpoint stays the same. Your tools stay the same. The bill changes.

Resilience

Fragments distributed across independent providers means outages and price changes do not affect your data.

Fragmentation

Data is split into fragments before placement. No individual provider can recover your files.

Trim's routing is not a simple redirect to one cheaper provider. IronShard distributes your data across the optimal mix of providers simultaneously — based on your workload pattern, cost profile, and resilience requirements. Your endpoint never changes. Provider selection and rebalancing happen automatically.

Savings depend on your workload type. Egress-heavy workloads typically see 35–45% cost reductions when routed through zero-egress providers such as Cloudflare R2. Throughput-heavy workloads see 25–35% reductions. Archive workloads paying S3 Standard rates for cold data typically see 45–55% reductions when moved to providers such as Backblaze B2.

Trim considers OVH Cloud, AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Exoscale, and DigitalOcean Spaces, and many more.

Common questions about Trim.

QWhat is S3 cost arbitrage?
S3 cost arbitrage is the practice of analysing your actual cloud storage access patterns and routing your data to the provider or provider mix that delivers the lowest total cost for that specific workload. Different providers price egress, requests, and storage very differently. A workload that is expensive on AWS S3 may be significantly cheaper on Cloudflare R2 or Wasabi, depending on how the data is accessed.
QDo I need to change my application or tools?
No. Trim works through IronShard's S3-compatible endpoint. Your existing tools, SDKs, and pipelines continue to use the same endpoint and credentials. The provider routing happens transparently within IronShard's infrastructure.
QWhat is an egress-heavy workload?
An egress-heavy workload is one where data is frequently downloaded by external parties — customers, partners, AI systems, or public users. AWS S3 charges up to $0.09 per GB for outbound data transfer. Providers such as Cloudflare R2 charge zero egress fees, making them significantly cheaper for this workload type.
QWhat is a throughput-heavy workload?
A throughput-heavy workload involves high volumes of read and write requests, typically during AI model training, batch data processing, or analytics pipelines. Costs on AWS S3 accumulate through per-request charges. Providers such as Wasabi do not charge per-request fees, substantially reducing costs for high-frequency access patterns.
QHow does IronShard's multi-cloud architecture improve resilience?
IronShard fragments your data before distributing it across providers. Each provider holds only partial, encrypted fragments. No single provider can reconstruct your files independently. This means a provider outage, price change, or service disruption does not affect data availability — IronShard continues serving requests from the remaining fragments and can rebalance to a different provider mix automatically.
